Lollypop Farm YP September Meeting

The September Lollypop Farm Young Professionals meeting focused on the humane law enforcement branch of Lollypop Farm. Rochester is very lucky to have three humane law enforcement officers that work at Lollypop Farm. Officer Reno DiDomenico spoke to the group about his position and cruelty issues going on in our area. We learned that Rochester has dog fighting and cock fighting but it is difficult to address because often times the fights are held on local Indian reservations where Officer DiDomenico and all other law enforcement has no authority.

We learned that a few years ago the officers featured on Animal Planet's precinct came to Lollypop Farm to learn how to deal with farm animals. The show is based in New York City and they were having problems with immigrants having goats in their apartments. The NYC officers unfamiliar with these animals did not know how to handle the situations.

Officer DiDomenico told us that his main goal is to educate people. It seems outrageous to animal lovers but some people don't know or don't think its a problem to shoot their dog to put it down, to leave their dog in a hot car, or hit their dog to teach them a lesson. Another common problem is that people leave their dogs tied up outside with out access to shelter. In these situations the goal isn't to hand out fines or jail time but rather to educate the owners on proper animal care.

The next Lollypop Farm Young Professional meeting will be October 24th at 6:30pm at Lollypop Farm in Fairport. This meeting will focus on adoptions and farm animals. If we are lucky we will have a special visitor from the farm!

Lollypop Farm Young Professionals Gardening

Volunteers Mulching

On May 11th 70 volunteers from Xerox came to the shelter and got a tremendous amount of work done. They spent the day cleaning the barns, fixing the farm stalls, planting flowers and trimming the bushes.

Lollypop Farm Young Professionals volunteers got together Wednesday night to finish some mulching. The whole front of the building needed to be mulched. We were able to get a majority of the work done and will be finishing up on Wednesday June 1st from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. Additional volunteers are welcome. If you are interested send an email to youngprofessionals@lollypopfarm.org. Benefits include helping out an amazing animal shelter in your community and good karma!
