Riga Kitties - My Favs

These kitties are at Lollypop Farm. They are not available for adoption yet but they are some of my favorite cats at the shelter. They were taken from a hording situation in Riga NY and until the legal case is closed they are unavailable.

Fixin' Ferals at Lollypop Farm

Kitten in the clinic
Today Lollypop Farm held one of their feral cat fixathons. Local groups that care for feral colonies trapped and brought in cats to be spayed and neutered. Some of the groups around Rochester that take care of feral cats are Habitat for Cats and The Colony Caregivers. Both groups brought in cats. Total about 40 feral cats were fixed today. That's a lot of kittens prevented! I volunteered this morning to help out in the clinic waking up the cats while they are coming out of anaesthesia.

Collar Me Up

Classic Stripes
I'm addicted to buying stuff for Peanut and Bailey. So when my coworker started making her own dog collars of corse I can't resist and I buy several of them! The collars are beautiful but even better than that they are made well so I don't have to worry about the dogs breaking out of them (my worst fear). Its difficult to find quality dog collars for small dogs. Most of them are super thin and break easily. Bailey and Peanut each have two collars from Collar Me Up. My mom's dogs Mia and Ollie also have collars from there.

Collar Me Up specializes in custom made dog collars so you can pick your ribbon and background and buckle style. But if your like me and thats way too many choices they also have ready made collar styles to choose from. Peanut and Ollie have coordinating collars! They are my favorite two collars. Peanut's says little stinker with skunks and Ollie's says makin mischief with raccoons. Both very representative of their personalities.

Whats awesome is they also have cute collars for large dogs. Not that I know by experience but I hear it is difficult to find a cute collar for big dogs. Just because your dog is big doesn't mean you wont want to dress him or her up in adorable gear. I've also ordered ID tags for mine and my moms dogs from their site. These ID tags are really well made so the engraving wont wear off like on other tags. They also slide on flat to the collar so the dogs can't chew them. Peanut is always chewing on her tags, to the point that they are not clear anymore. The tags are big enough for an extra line of information. I put Peanut's microchip ID  # on her tag, on Mia my moms dog's tag I put "I Do Not Like Kids". Shes 17 years old but very small so she looks like a puppy. Kids always want to pet her but shes old and grumpy. If she bites someone I'll have big problems on my hands. This make me feel a little better. So if she wandered off and a stranger found her at least they would know not to let their kids pet her.

Fabulous Flyball!

Peanut was pretty naughty at flyball this week. She is starting to get into the habbit of running out of her lane and into another dogs lane! I'm not sure what to do to correct this issue but I don't want to enter her in any competitions until I'm confident she will stay in her lane and ignoor the other dogs. Shes still young I hope she out grows this soon.

Priceless Purrs Adopt-a-thon at Lollypop Farm

Kitten season is upon us in full force this year. In the summer the number of cats admitted to Lollypop Farm doubles. Unfortunately there are not enough homes for all of the cats out there. Lollypop Farm is doing their part by caring for over 400 cats right now! That's a huge number of cats and just cats. They are also caring for horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, dogs, birds, and bunnies.

On Thursday July 7th Lollypop Farm is waiving all adoption fees on cats and kittens for the day to encourage people to come adopt a new friend. Every animal that is adopted helps two animals in need. The first animal gets a home and the second gets a spot at the shelter and a shot at a loving home. This priceless deal includes spaying or neutering, feline leukemia testing, vaccinations and parasite treatment, microchipping, flea control treatment, a certificate for a free health exam, and a 30-day gift of pet health insurance. The spaying or neutering alone is a tremendous value.

I hope by the time I go in Sunday there are a lot less cats waiting for homes. For more information on this event check out Lollypop's event calendar: http://lollypop.org/orgmain.asp?storyType=3&storyid=817

The Best Bully Sticks

Peanut LOVES bully sticks. The other dogs like them too but not as much. Peanut is a major chewer and if I don't have plenty of acceptable things for her to chew she goes for my shoes. Bully sticks are better for dogs than other chews such as raw hides. They are all natural dehydrated bull penis. Raw hide chews can be dangerous to dogs because they swallow it and it can swell in their stomachs and create a blockage. I recently started ordering the bully sticks online from Best Bully Sticks. Now I've ordered from them twice and both time the bully sticks were great quality, amazing price and shipped very quickly. They are at least 50% less expensive than the bully sticks I was buying at my local pet store.

Awesome Fido Fest!

2 Fast Fur U Flyball Team & Victoria Stilwell
Fido Fest on Sunday was an awesome time! I didn't see Victoria Stilwell's seminar but I did see her during the dog trick competition and she came to watch our flyball demo! This is the second annual Fido Fest at Boom Towne Canine Campus in Farmington and it is definately a huge improvement from last year. I am bias tho because this year Peanut was in the flyball demo.

Victoria was so nice to take pictures with us

Peanut's team mate Lou Bob was in the trick competition. He performed his trick "Getting Ready for Bed". His trick consisted of opening his night stand and taking out his blanket and teddy bear, turning out the light and closing the door. Lou Bob did great in front of the audience and won 4th place out of 10! The First place winner performed an excellent dance with her dog.
